COGNITIVE DISSONANCE

Collage by Sabreehna Essien

In this solo exhibition Cognitive Dissonance: Living While Black, I reflect on my own personhood as a black woman in America. The psychological dissonance of being proud of my Kenyan heritage as well as the phenomenal ancestral legacy of being a descendant of the stolen ones….. I am a citizen of this land whereby racial slurs, disenfranchisement, and systemic racism like cancer erode the fabric of this society. We are stronger together- Ubuntu

This season of Artistic expression with words in mixed media form or Collage Art is my affirmations and counter messages to silence the attitude in this society that seeks to cast dark shadows over my melanated skin and gifted existence to this world.

I am here.
